Tier 1 Problem-Solving Template

An hour that will forever change how you work with behavior data.
Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.
Abraham Lincoln

If persistent, unexpected behavior were a tree, the Tier 1 Problem-Solving Template (T1PS Template) is the sharpest axe available. Useful for teams using any behavior data system, the T1PS Template ensures that your team never spends another meeting ‘measuring the tree,’ when chopping time is long overdue.

Does the T1PS Template replace required state or district forms?

Nope. If there’s a form you’re using to satisfy a regulatory purpose, you’ll still need to do it. The T1PS Template will absolutely replace the reason you’re doing those other forms.

Who is the T1PS Template for?

Anyone who works with behavior data. For example:

  • District Leaders who’d like to stop describing disparate impact in school discipline and instead start addressing the unmet needs leading to disciplinary action.
  • School Leaders who know what the problem is, and want their teams to collaborate around the solutions.
  • Classroom teachers who know that the student on their minds and hearts doesn’t have 6-8 weeks to wait for us to complete a referral process.

School psychologists, MTSS/RTI Coordinators, and PBIS team leaders who want an avenue for support for children/youth who aren’t eligible for specialized education or 504 accommodations.

Tier 1 Problem-Solving Template (T1PS Template) training includes how to:

  • Frame solvable problems at any level
    • District
    • School
    • Classroom
  • Implement four different categories of solutions,
  • Use data you already collect to define success and measure progress.

Most importantly, know that starting out with PBIS will never require you to “start over” with anything you have already built that is working well for you. We are looking forward to building the kinds of classrooms and schools that those you serve will remember as warm, kind, and supportive places to learn.
