FAQ

Learning opportunities for teachers will never cost more than $37.00, and I often host free events both in-person and online.

For schools, districts, and similarly sized organizations, we’ll work together to create a highly-tailored scope of work that meets your goals and what I know I can help you achieve. Depending on what we decide to do, we might create an hourly proposal (currently $329/hr) or a “Per Project” proposal (fee based on the job). Generally, a “Per Project” proposal will be the best value for schools and districts.

I agree that working with me does involve an investment of time and resources on your part. Often, however, working together is much less expensive than trying to accomplish the same goals by yourself or by delegating the project to internal personnel. This is because I’ve already helped schools and districts accomplish what you’re wanting to do, and between my assistant Lilo and me, we can take much of the ‘hidden work’ off your to-do list.

You may find someone who can lead trainings or provide technical assistance for less money. You won’t find a provider who can offer the kinds of transformative learning experiences that are the reason why clients work with TGS Educational Consulting for years.

Another reason that you might see a larger cost is because in person training is the most expensive way to learn. Often, online options can save you a lot of money, and the learning and support available are still very high.

Professional learning services is about learning. Technical assistance is about achieving

The professional learning content I offer will absolutely increase your team’s knowledge and understanding of the content. You will leave each session ready to live your learning out loud, and expand what you offer to those you serve.

Technical assistance helps school and district leaders build systems that sustain the learning over time. Instead of learning how to design a Behavior Support Plan, for example, we will apply our learning in context and design a Behavior Support Plan for a youth we hope to support. Then, as we implement the plan together, we will learn what works, develop necessary resources, and build the communication tools needed to create durable, sustainable frameworks that will last well beyond our time together.

Yes. But then you’ll need to lead the PD and do the work yourself. DIY PD is a great idea when you have leaders who not only have a deep knowledge base of what you’re trying to build but also outstanding presentation and facilitation skills. If you have these people available (and don’t mind paying them to do something other than their job for a while), you really should give them a chance to shine and serve.

Sometimes, though, you may not have the time to develop training materials and activities, and having someone ready to start right away is the best way to go. Honestly, spending time to save money makes sense if you’re confident that 1) your team will have an outstanding experience in every professional learning session, and 2) the time you spend developing PD won’t harm other important work.

Typically, spending money to save time is a better value when 1) you’re confident that your provider can offer an outstanding experience for every professional learning session, and 2) the time you save protects other important work.

It’s worth scheduling a 30-minute Zoom meeting to find out.

If you want to create these documents yourself, you’ll get a smaller bill from me. You’ll also spend time formatting images in Word instead of leading change. In fact, the main reason schools elect to have us create the documents is to avoid this kind of ‘hidden work’ that other vendors might not disclose.

The reason why TGS Educational Consulting started taking this kind of task off schools’ to do lists is because we saw how much longer PBIS implementation takes when schools try to do everything on their own. PBIS requires a lot of “PBIS stuff” to do right. I would rather you and your team focus on the learning and as little as possible on clerical tasks.

I do. Send me an email with the date, time, and a brief event description, and I’ll send you an estimate.

TGS Educational Consulting is based in Tucson, Arizona, and most of the caring professionals affiliated with TGS are also from Arizona. We have been honored to serve educators and caring professionals from nonprofit organizations from 93 cities in 22 states/regions.

I mean that I will always have the utmost unconditional positive regard for you, your team, and those you serve. As caring professionals, we work in a field that, if given the chance, would take 150% of us. I will always seek to understand you, to anticipate how I can best help, and to remind you as often as I can that you are doing a tremendous job of helping children and youth learn and grow.

Often, when initiatives fail, it’s because of one of these three reasons:

  1. The leader delegates too much, leading others to conclude that whatever we’re doing isn’t that important.
  2. Past training was ineffective.
  3. The school built systems bigger than they could actually implement.

As you look for providers, they really ought to be asking you whether one or more of these reasons might still apply…I know I will! We can address each and all of them together before we begin.

Warning: If you’re hiring me to help you do something that hasn’t worked in the past, then we’re going to develop some clear expectations of each other at the outset. Namely, I prefer to work with organizations that intend to put what we’re learning/doing into practice. Similarly, you probably want to work with someone who want you to succeed and isn’t only available to you during training sessions.

Well, this hasn’t happened yet. Year over year, our professional learning and technical assistance services  great reviews, and our schools and organizations we work with tend to achieve what we set out to accomplish together. Additionally,  we’re usually in constant communication throughout the project, and this tends to ensure that we’re meeting each other’s expectations.

However, if there’s an issue with the work, give us a chance to fix it. If you’re not satisfied with the solution, you can stop paying. If the issue is with a product that you’ve purchased, just let us know and we’ll send you a refund once you’ve had a chance to return the product.

Because some providers in similar spaces might view what counts as best practice differently, it helps to know what TGS Educational Consulting will never do:

  1. Help you build a PBIS store or otherwise monetize positive feedback.
  2. Rely exclusively on “Trainer of Trainers” models (they just don’t work).
  3. Provide trainings without the active participation of school or district leadership.
