Positive Behavior Interventions and Support

Other PBIS vendors offer competent, traditional services. Go with trendsetting.

Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) is arguably the most well-researched and evidence-based framework for creating positive school culture and improving behavioral outcomes for students.

Done well, every adult in the building will have a shared language for communicating what they value as a school and how everyone (adults, included) can live those values out loud throughout campus and beyond. Better yet, when students need extra love and care to be their best, a team is ready with effective interventions matched to their needs, and no one ever needs to wait for six to eight weeks of data before providing students with what they need. Given these outcomes, it makes sense that schools throughout the United States and around the world generally implement some level of Positive Behavior Interventions and Support.

However, PBIS over 60 years old, and many of the approaches to staff training, implementation, and student interventions haven’t aged well. For example, PBIS is older than trauma-informed care, and many common Tier 1, 2, and 3 practices have not evolved as quickly as our understanding of the complex social and emotional needs schools must meet in order for learning to happen. Additionally, traditional PBIS training involves recruiting a small team of teachers and administrators to work with an outside facilitator, typically for 6-8 days off site during the school year. On top of the training, school teams can expect to spend hours of additional time just “making stuff,” like posters, matrices, flowcharts, and manuals. It’s time for PBIS training to evolve and address these issues honestly.

At TGS Educational Consulting, we offer a wide range of support for schools implementing PBIS, and we will always begin by helping you engage your entire school community from the very start. Even better, because we will create the “PBIS stuff” for you (complete with your school branding) all of your time is spent on improving student outcomes…never on formatting a manual.

If your school has already started to implement PBIS, the “PBIS By Topic” content is where to begin. There you’ll find online and in-person offerings that address the most important components of any PBIS framework.

And, if your school is exploring how PBIS might help you achieve the culture and climate necessary to support student outcomes, spend some time checking out PBIS at all three levels before heading over to PBIS: Comprehensive Implementation.

PBIS Tier 1

School-wide essentials.

Tier 1 is where schools should usually begin their PBIS implementation. Together, we’ll uncover school values and build the systems necessary to live those values out loud throughout your campus and beyond.

PBIS Tier 2

Systems to provide some extra support and care.

Tier 2 is where PBIS begins to “sing.” Once built, your Tier 2 systems will be ready to support any students who needs a little extra support and care to be their best, all within a framework that’s easy to implement and monitor.

PBIS Tier 3

Whatever we can, for as long as it takes.

Tier 3 supports are for the student who is always on your mind and heart, and for the staff working to meet their needs. At Tier 3, we will work together to build systems of support for individual students that are based on a comprehensive look at overall wellness, student-led goals, and care for the entire team and family.

PBIS: Comprehensive Implementation

Whatever we can, for as long as it takes.

Tier 2 is where PBIS begins to “sing.” Once built, your Tier 2 systems will be ready to support any students who needs a little extra support and care to be their best, all within a framework that’s easy to implement and monitor.

Most importantly, know that starting out with PBIS will never require you to “start over” with anything you have already built that is working well for you. We are looking forward to building the kinds of classrooms and schools that those you serve will remember as warm, kind, and supportive places to learn.
