PBIS Tier 3

Tier 3 PBIS represents the highest level of support within the PBIS framework and is designed to meet the needs of students who require intensive and individualized interventions to address their complex unexpected behaviors. When behaviors are persistent, elevated, and clearly need more than what Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports can offer, we need a different approach that provides the student with whatever we can that will help them be successful.

At Tier 3, we conduct a thorough assessment of each student’s behavioral strengths and needs, often involving multiple sources of data, including observations, interviews, and behavior assessments. This comprehensive assessment helps us gain a deeper understanding of the underlying factors contributing to the student’s behavioral difficulties and informs the development of a highly individualized behavior support plan.

Tier 3 interventions are highly individualized and may include a range of intensive strategies and supports tailored to the specific needs of the student. These may involve one-on-one counseling, functional behavior assessment (FBA), Behavior Support Plan (bsp), individualized instruction, social-emotional learning programs, and collaboration with external agencies or specialists.

A key aspect of Tier 3 PBIS is the involvement of a multidisciplinary team, including educators, counselors, behavior specialists, school psychologists, and other relevant professionals. Furthermore, the Tier 3 team involves adults that the youth selects and trusts. Most importantly, the youth we intend to serve will always be a leading voice on the team. Together, the team works collaboratively to develop, implement, and monitor the effectiveness of the behavior support plan, ensuring that it is responsive to the student’s evolving needs and circumstances.

Furthermore, Tier 3 interventions prioritize ongoing progress monitoring and data analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of the support plan and make necessary adjustments. This data-driven approach allows us to track the student’s progress over time, identify areas of improvement, and refine interventions to better support their success.

Tier 3 supports are for the student who is always on your mind and heart, and for the staff working to meet their needs. At Tier 3, we will work together to build systems of support for individual students that are based on a comprehensive look at overall wellness, student-led goals, and care for the entire team and family.
