A set of three sorting activities that equip educators to label behaviors, assess intensity, and infer perceived motivation. Used most commonly for initial and refresher training for Tier 1 Positive Behavior Interventions and Support, the Behavior Sorting Game is your tool for creating a common language for defining behaviors, agreeing on what should be teacher-managed vs. administrator-managed behaviors, and most importantly, figuring out why students might choose unexpected behaviors at all.
Schools often use the Behavior Definitions Sorting Pack as part of their whole-staff PBIS training and also to support paraprofessionals and new staff.
A complete learning outline comes with each order, and the Behavior Definitions Sorting Pack is available in a single set or a staff bundle. As with all products, my email is available for you to ask questions as you get started.
Your order will include:
- Behavior Definitions Card Sort
- A set of cards with PBISApps’ list of unexpected behaviors and definitions.
- Learners match the behavior to the correct definition.

- Behavior Examples Card Sort
- Examples of each unexpected behavior with a range of intensity.
- Learners match examples to the unexpected behaviors and arrange in order of intensity.
- Examples come from real discipline referrals (no student, staff, or school names).

- Perceived Motivation Card Sort
- Four to six examples of unexpected behaviors happening for different reasons.
- Learners match examples to the reason the most likely perceived motivation.

- Perceived Motivation Sorting Mat
- A laminated, labeled mat that makes the perceived motivation card sort easy to organize and to process individually, in small groups, or as a whole-group exercise.
