Most principals don’t know that PBIS evaluates district implementation of PBIS on whether all staff members receive annual training in their school’s:
- Teaching System
- Recognition System
- Accountability System
- Solution System
The problem is that there hasn’t been a quickstart guide anywhere for PBIS, and even if there were, no one has time for extensive training at the beginning of the school year. For district leaders, this is a big problem, because unless your district has a centralized system for PBIS implementation, the quality of your district’s PBIS implementation comes down to how well your principals can provide quality training all on their own.
Without shared knowledge and common set of practices, superintendents will likely find some schools overemphazising rewards and consequences and others hoping their posters alone will teach students to live values out loud. Worst of all, it’s almost certain that no school is using their data to solve the recurring problems that interfere with teaching and learning.
I created PBIS101: (More than) the Basics of Positive Behavior Interventions and Support to provide anyone new to PBIS or newly in charge of PBIS with a free resource to equip them with the best possible foundation for success. Best of all, most people finish the course in less than 60 minutes. When you take the course, you’ll learn:
- What the matrix and lesson plans are for, and how to write examples that sparkle.
- Why “PBIS Stores” are unnecessary and likely detrimental to your school’s recognition system.
- How your school’s accountability system can help students find the other side of their mistakes.
- Why data is the real work of PBIS, and why data is meant to solve problems, never merely to ‘describe’ or ‘admire’ them.
You’ll also get an overview of PBIS at all three tiers: Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3. When your entire team takes the course, they’ll have:
- The same knowledge base and vocabulary,
- Templates to support implementation at all tiers, and
- A thorough sense of what PBIS looks like when fully implemented.
Let me know how well the course serves you! The course is free, and you can sign up right now by clicking the button below.
